After recently getting my new HTC Desire, which is an absolute dream to use, I started copying over my fave audio tracks. I noticed that the HTC Sense UI Music player renders album art quite nicely, and when the phone is locked, overlays the current playing song with art. I then set forth editing and downloading art for all of the tunes that I was copying, using Mp3tag v2.46. It works great, albeit tediously, with the exception that once you disconnect the phone and Android remounts the SD Card, the Music app is not updated with the new information in the tags.
It’s quite a simple (dead-simple I might say) solution. Just clear the media storage cache, which is found in Settings » Applications » Manage Applications » Media Storage » Clear Data. Since you have wiped the cache, you’ll need to power down your phone, then boot it back up.
Once I do this, then Android rescans and updates the music library with the new ID3 tag and album art information! Note that clearing the media storage cache also seemed to make Android forget which ringtone I had set, as well as some notification sounds. Not a big deal to reset those, considering that every single MP3 now displays the proper info in the Music Player. I hope this comes in handy to someone!

Hi! I have same problem. I was trying lot of solution like SDRemount etc. Nothing. :( Your solution working but after renaming I have double of every my music file. Of course one copy not playing. :( HTC Desire is good device but this bug is terrible!
P.S. same problem with photos.

Hey OllyCat, I’m sorry to hear that this solution didn’t work for you. The odd thing is that my Photos have never been affected either. I have not even really used this method lately, as I rarely add songs to my phone (I wrote the article after I got my new Desire and had to add a bunch of tunes at once).
Hopefully HTC/Google fixes this soon, otherwise maybe FroYo has already solved this.
Either way, I’ll post any updates if I find any other solutions!
Cheers, -G

UPDATE!!! Guys, I found the proper fix to this issue, just read the article above again, but it basically involves clearing the media cache on your device, then rebooting.
This has proven to work perfectly for me!
